Seattle, Washington

Home of the "original" Starbucks, Drakes famous 'Views' album cover (sorry mum), and Grey's Anatomy. The beautiful city of Seattle may have it's downfalls in winter, but the wind and rain are all part of the experience!

Seattle, Washington

Space Needle

Whenever anyone comes to stay with us in Auckland we always try to take them up the Sky Tower. There’s really nothing special about it, but when in Auckland it’s almost a rite of passage. So I figure, when in Seattle you almost have to go up the Space Needle in all its 184m of glory.

Museum of Pop Culture

With plenty of immersive exhibits ranging from ‘The Art of The Disney Costume’ to ‘Hendrix: Wild Blue Angel’ MoPOP covers many different aspects of pop culture. Having grown up going to Auckland’s War Memorial Museum, I’m really looking forward to experiencing a different side of history, especially through an American lens.

Chihuly Garden and Glass

I’ll be honest, I’m not a huge garden/glass enthusiast but I’m also not one to say no  to a new experience. Chihuly Garden and Glass features bright and colourful blown glass in amongst the gardens. With both an indoor and outdoor exhibit, I hope I manage to go on a clearer day rather than in the notorious Seattle Rain.

Seattle Dog

I love a good hotdog and apparently a Seattle Dog is one you have to try. From my understanding it’s just a regular hotdog slathered with cream cheese and sauteed onions. While those wouldn’t necessarily be my first choice of toppings for a hotdog, I have to try it and see if it lives up to all its glory.

Pike Place Market

Featuring more than 200 small businesses, my visit to Seattle's greatest tourist trap will definitely be Covid permitting. With heaps of restaurants to choose from, the “original” Starbucks, and 15kg fish being thrown around at Pike Place Market, deciding what to eat won’t be easy but I know the food will be well worth it in the end.

Seattle Aquarium

I’ve spent a few hours watching the live cameras on Seattle Aquariums YouTube. Little Sea Otters floating around, Barney and Hogan the harbour seals playing in the water. But imagine seeing all that in person, plus plenty of fish and birds. Count me in!

Argosy Cruises Harbour Tour

With the average winter high temperature being just shy of 10°C you will for sure be catching me enjoying this tour from inside the boat, not on the outdoor deck. Seeing all the sights without leaving my seat sounds like a perfect way to rest my feet after all the walking I will undoubtedly be doing - the full service bar will certainly be appreciated too!

Woodland Park Zoo

Okay hear me out on this one. Wolves, Bears, Komodo Dragons, Porcupines, Armadillos, and Sloths. Need I say more? I will 100% be visiting all the animals Woodland Park Zoo has to offer, starting with the ones we don’t have in little ole New Zealand.

Gas Works Parks

The iconic paintball scene from '10 Things I Hate About You' anyone? Having seen this movie at least one hundred times I can't go all the way to Seattle and not stop by.

Meridith Grey's House

Lockdown 2020 consisted of many TV show binges and I'm not ashamed to admit that Grey's Anatomy was probably the longest binge of them all. So stopping by the infamous interns house would almost make the 18 seasons worth it.

Fremont Troll

Okay, yes another '10 Things I Hate About You' filming location. Cameron asks Bianca to go behind enemy lines and figure out what Kat likes, all in a feeble attempt to date Bianca himself. There’s really nothing super special about me wanting to visit this troll apart from having seen it so many times while watching the movie.
